To A Close Friend In Mourning

Dear Reader: This poem was written to a very close friend who is grieving the loss of her mother. 

I saw the sadness in your face and eyes, and from my heart my feelings for you did arise.

In each life there is some rain but from the love of others it will always wane.

Will You Marry Me?

To the lady who captivated my heart I knew I loved you from the start. 

With your humor and kindness you did intrigue but being so beautiful, you were out of my league.

What could I say that would make your heart sway? I didn't know until in a whisper, you told me so.

You said, "Shower me with roses and daffodils and bring me excitement and thrills, but never boredom for that only chills."

"Make me laugh and sing, and joy to my heart you will bring."

"When I cry, find out why rather than be just be another uncaring guy." 

"With compassion, be sensitive to how I feel and do your best to help me heal."

"Then love me true and I will be with you." 

With all the courage I could muster, knowing I would forever entrust her, I asked her to marry me.

I was gentle and did not press, and then softly she said, "Yes." 

I knew we were meant for each other and there would never be another, and together we would have the best life that could ever be.

A Wonderful World

In a world saying never, these are ways I shall make it better:

I will smile warmly to others, listen to what they say, wish them a wonderful day.
I will compliment all the good, withhold my criticism but share my witticism.

I will be kind to all in deed, generous to those in need and to their heart-spoken words I will heed.
I will welcome others into traffic and into each grocery line, for I seek for us to bind.

I will, if you have a bad day, and we meet say, "Welcome dear friend, do not fear, for together we are here to make bad times disappear." And maybe, just maybe you will say, "I hope again he comes my way."

In each day of your life, I wish you peace with no trouble or strife.

But life is hard and to yourself you must be true and know there are those of us who love and care, and will be there for you.

Dear Reader, For me, humor has always been a lifesaver from the sadness of life and all of its strife. I wrote this poem with a close friend in mind who is mourning the loss of her mother. But it is for you as well, if you too are in pain:

Life can be baron and cold and it can also be filled with love and joy for all to behold.

So let’s laugh and release our tensions, no longer trapped in our apprehensions.

Then each day our hearts will say, let's smile and find something beautiful, come what may.

And I promise you too, we will rejoice and always celebrate the specialness of you.
